Las Vegas \\ Opt Outside \\ Las Vegas Outdoors
When you think of Las Vegas, Nevada rarely does one thing of the outdoors. Situated in a higher altitude portion of the Mojave Desert and surrounded by several mountains there is no shortage of natural beauty only a short distance from The Strip. One of our favorite things to do after a few days of all the city action that Sin City is to rent a car and explore this awesome corner of Nevada. Because this is something we enjoy we thought others might too. Here are some of our go-to places to enjoy Las Vegas outdoors. It’s a perfect way to break away from the gambling and drinking that naturally comes with any Vegas trip.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
This is one of the most beautiful and closest ways to discover nature not far from any casino. Known for its vibrant namesake red rocks it is also a mecca from rock climbers. If an adrenaline rush of this extreme sport isn’t for you simply walk, bike or cruise the 13-mile scenic drive. It’s also the perfect place for a picturesque Vegas elopement session too. (Hint, hint… Fornear Photo would LOVE to photograph it for you!) Since this is part of the National Park system be sure to check out the Red Rock Canyon website for more details regarding hours and entrance fees that may apply.

Valley of Fire State Park
By far Valley of Fire is one of our most loved places to visit. This location is a bit of a hike from the city of Las Vegas as it’s about a 45-minute drive but so worth it! Perfect for a day trip, this spot will transport you. It almost feels like you are on a whole new planet! We cannot wait for the day when we can take our Airstream here to camp. Between the amazing prehistoric formations, red rocks, hikes and views we just love it!
Mount Charleston
If you are ever gazing out your westbound hotel room window and see snow-capped mountains you are most likely looking upon Mount Charleston. In the winter months if you are into skiing, hiking or simply want to grab a warm beverage and enjoy the mountain views you can. During the summer get away from the desert heat to breathe in the cooler mountain air. Less than an hour away by car this place will transport you worlds away!
